I’ve had the recent pleasure of attending two Kundalini Yoga classes taught by the very wonderful Ruby K. She teaches various forms of Yoga out of her studio, Kokoro Yoga, located in the quaint, coastal town of Bellingham, WA. I’ve had the opportunity over the past 8 years to study Kundalini Yoga with a bounty of teachers, mostly in New Mexico and Los Angeles, and I can say without hesitation that this particular class has been my personal favorite. My only complaint is that it’s once a week rather than twice or three times a week! It’s hard to wait for something so great.
The class starts each Saturday at 10:30 and goes til noon. Ruby guides us through a very invigorating Kriya, and the overall vibe of the space is lifted through chanting and breathing. I was worried before the first class that I’d be out of shape, but I’ve managed to hold up fairly well during both classes. I can’t recall the last time I have felt so good coming out of a yoga class. I feel incredible.
After each class, the students gather in a circle with the instructor to enjoy some tea, snacks and conversation. It kind of reminds me a bit of going to Temple and hanging out after the service to eat some Challah. Pictured below is our spread of teas and snacks from today’s class:
In a couple of weeks the venerable Guru Singh is coming to Seattle, and some of the class members will be carpooling down together for that event. I am very much looking forward to that.
